Job Description
The Georgia Department of Public Health is the lead agency entrusted by the people of the state of Georgia with the ultimate responsibility for the health of communities and the entire population.

The agency is seeking a highly qualified candidate for the position of Grant Accountant within the Grants Management & Reporting Section.

Job Responsibilities
Under supervision, administers ongoing federal grant reporting functions and grant related activities. Researches federal compliance and regulations associated with funding sources and prepares or assists with federal financial reports.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Performs grant-related post award functions, including budget an expense analysis, periodic invoicing, reconciliation and financial reporting.
Performs grant close outlets functions including reviewing general ledger transactions to ensure accuracy, preparing journal entries, and preparing final financial reports.
Supports program staff with grant accounting needs, performs analysis and support for projects.
Provides training and education as needed for principal investigators for grant accounting.
Ensures collaboration between grant accounting and other financial areas such as budget and accounting
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university AND One year of professional accounting experience

OR

Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university AND Two years of professional accounting experience

OR

Bachelor’s degree in a business curriculum which included completion of introductory and intermediate accounting sequence from an accredited college or university AND Three years of professional accounting experience.

Note: Some positions may require certifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

Completion of Bachelor’s degree Accounting, Finance or related area which included the successful completion of the introductory accounting sequence and the intermediate accounting sequence and 3 years of accounting experience.
Knowledgeable in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) relating to government organization,
Experience working with the state accounting system (TeamWorks)
Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations applicable to financial reporting.
Experience with federal awards for government entities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skill.
Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient in research, interpreting and analyzing financial data.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel i.e. Pivot tables
