Job Title: Building Maintenance Crew Supervisor
Reports to: 
Facilities Maintenance Superintendent

 

Major Responsibilities:
Leadership- 
Demonstrates behavior consistent with the vision, mission, and values of the City of Decatur, and provides excellent customer service. Engages in, and supports, the mission of the Public Works Department by carrying out department goals and objectives through positive reinforcement and consistent application of department rules, regulations, standard operating guidelines and responsible stewardship of City resources. Participates in employee training and development, and provides input for performance evaluations; provides training and assistance to regular, temporary and seasonal Division employees; reviews work performed; explains regulations and procedures and provides direction on related issues; promotes cooperative team efforts among staff. Demonstrates a positive attitude and assists the Facilities Maintenance Superintendent in creating a productive, motivating, and ethical work environment by teaching and mentoring other employees within the organization through the sharing of knowledge, skills, and information to achieve a cohesive work unit. Initiates and suggests actions for continuous improvement of departmental and City operations, employee performance, morale, and work methods. Coordinates building maintenance capital planning, daily and preventive maintenance activities. Participates in the development of program goals, annual work plans and budget, including contracted services; monitors and controls project expenditures; oversees and coordinates special and emergency projects. May coordinate with contractors in providing contract services; solicit and collect bids for new equipment and contracted maintenance work. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing to City Management; the public; inter-departmental staff; etc.

 

Effective Management-    Participates in the development goals and objectives as well as policies and procedures; make recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards, policies, and procedures; participate in the implementation of approved policies and procedures; monitor work activities to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures. Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for the delivery of building maintenance operations and services. Plans, schedules, assigns and monitors work; instructs and trains staff in the correct methods and procedures. Reviews and evaluates employee performance. Effectively manages and oversees annual facility inspections.  Plans, organizes and supervises the work of crews involved in the operation, construction, maintenance and repair of all city facilities. Regularly inspects the work of crews for completeness, compliance with specifications and conformance to procedures. Provides responsive and timely feedback on the status of projects. Responds quickly to work order requests.  Performs daily safety checks, preventative maintenance and minor repairs on equipment and vehicles. Execute a weekly Preventative Maintenance Program to inspect equipment, vehicles, and Public Works drainage infrastructure ensuring maintenance and proper use and care. Strong interpersonal skills to communicate and interact with others to run the day-to-day operations.  This may require handling multiple tasks and prioritizing. Demonstrates a commitment and adherence to safety. Skilled in using computers and related Microsoft Office suite applications (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook).

Task/Quality Service- Operates and has skill in the use of a variety of specialized power tools and light equipment including but not limited to floor stripper, burnisher, floor scrubber and pressure washer.  Has the ability to accurately prepare and maintain a variety of reports, records, inspection forms, correspondence and other similar communication and record keeping documents.  Performs all other related duties and special projects as assigned.
