Department: Active Living Division

Locations: Glenlake Tennis Center (1121 Church St.)

Work Hours: Glenlake Tennis Center is open between the hours of 9am – 10pm. Tennis instructors will work shifts between 2 and 8 hours. Hours will vary.

Purpose of Work: 

The tennis instructor is an athletic position that engages in the Active Living Division’s mission by promoting and supporting department wide programming, cooperative and collaborative team and individual work efforts, engaging the community, and providing excellent customer service to the public.  The position demonstrates a commitment to safety by proactively initiating, communicating, and adhering to practices and procedures to assure the highest standards of risk management, employee, and community safety.

Major Responsibilities:

Leadership – Creates a high performance work culture by demonstrating a positive attitude and modeling the City’s mission, vision, and values.  Demonstrates, promotes, and develops leadership, management, and technical skills for self and other employees.  Conducts self with high integrity, proactive in conserving city resources, and seeks and incorporates customer feedback for continuous improvement of operations.

Effective Management – Takes initiative to accomplish tasks and identifies opportunities for improvement.  Follows all established safety rules and departmental policies and procedures, and carries out oral and written instructions with minimal supervision.  Provides responsive and timely feedback on status and progress of work assignments to supervisors and coworkers.

Teamwork – Creates an atmosphere of reliance and collaboration by building effective working relationships with supervisor, team members, city employees, etc.  Demonstrates cooperation and initiative in helping team members, supervisor, and other city employees with developing and implementing programs and objectives to improve the department and City.

Quality Service – Performs work independently under general supervision and includes the following tasks: creates a safe and inviting environment by performing light custodial duties, greets patrons as they enter the facility, processes activity registrations, calculates and collects court fees, provides patrons with the correct change, records and deposits money, sells concessions, answers telephones, provides information on racquet stringing, answers questions, promotes Active Living programming, and provides timely information and feedback to supervisors and coworkers on status and progress of work activities.  Performs all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications & Physical Requirements:
Must be at least 17 years of age.  Must be able to work flexible hours. Must have good verbal communication skills.  Must be able to learn city and departmental policies and procedures.  Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.  Must attend a new hire orientation before being assigned to a facility.  Must attend additional trainings as assigned.  First Aid/CPR Certification preferred.

Must be able to lift, push, and carry up to 30 lbs reach and climb to retrieve objects for clean up or programs. Must be able to sit, walk, and stand for long periods of time.  Will occasionally run, bend, and crawl at various intervals in an office or outside setting.  Will be exposed to cleaning fumes, exhaust fumes, extreme heat, cold, rain, pollen, and other environmental factors dependent upon activities or programs.
