Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms to Participate in Prestigious Concordia Summit in New York City

ATLANTA—On Monday, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms will take part in the prestigious Concordia Summit, which brings together global leaders to discuss critical issues alongside the United Nations General Assembly in New York City. Mayor Bottoms will participate as a panelist with other thought leaders who are sharing their ideas and solutions on the importance of public-private partnerships in the immigration crisis to make positive change.

“Finding solutions to the global immigration crisis will be one of the biggest challenges of our time, and leadership on the local level will be just as important as it is on the world stage,” said Mayor Bottoms.

Mayor Bottoms will join the Honorable Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, Mayor of Freetown, Sierra Leone, and Frank Giustra, President of the Radcliffe Foundation, on the panel, which will be moderated by Patrick Gaspard, President of Open Society Foundations.

Mayor Bottoms recently issued an Executive Order to permanently stop receiving ICE detainees at the Atlanta Jail, under the current agreement with the United States Marshals Service.

The Administration also enlisted the assistance of business owners and nonprofits to assist immigrant families who have been separated at the U.S. border.

Mayor Bottoms will soon ask the Atlanta City Council to approve an expansion of legal services to immigrants through the City’s Access to Justice program in the Office of the Public Defender and will continue to work with the appropriate stakeholders to address this growing crisis.

Mayor Bottoms will speak about these actions as a blueprint for other leaders gathered at the Concordia Summit.

The Concordia Summit will be live-streamed to a global audience at https://www.concordia.net/live/.
